Sigiriya to Mirissa Transfer
From Sigiriya, the return to Mirissa heads south through the cultural triangle and dry-zone interior, then picks up the south coast road west to Mirissa. The 300 km journey takes 5 to 5.5 hours and is best started in the morning.
What the Drive Is Like
Roads
Drive east along the south coast on the A2 to Hambantota, then head north on the A2/B-roads through Wellawaya and inland to Dambulla, finishing on the B210 to Sigiriya. Mixed road quality: the south coast is smooth, but the interior roads through Wellawaya can be slow.
Scenery
Southern fishing beaches and stilt fishermen around Weligama and Mirissa, open semi-arid coast past Hambantota, then dry-zone paddy and scrub forest on the interior climb, and the flat cultural triangle plains approaching Sigiriya.
★ Travel Tips
- The Wellawaya route is slower than it looks, rural roads and occasional slow vehicles
- Fuel in Hambantota or Wellawaya before the interior section
- Arrive at Sigiriya before 4pm to have time for an afternoon climb
