Roads
From BIA the E03 Katunayake Expressway (25.8 km) leads to the Peliyagoda interchange. The recommended route continues via the E01 Southern Expressway, exiting at the Welipanna interchange for Aluthgama and Bentota. The alternative A2 coastal road from Colombo is slower through town traffic but stays close to the coast. The E03 and E01 are modern toll roads in good condition. Total distance is around 109 km.
Scenery
The E03 from the airport is open expressway. After Colombo the E01 runs inland until the Aluthgama exit. On the A2 alternative, the coast appears around Kalutara with its large Buddhist temple visible from the road. From Aluthgama south to Bentota the scenery is coconut groves, river mouth, and beach resort area.
