Sri-Lanka-Rundreise: 10 Tage – Klassische Sommerrunde
Die Sommerform der Rundreise: zuerst Sigiriya, dann Pasikudah und Arugam Bay bei ruhiger See, zurück über Ella, das Teeland und Kandy.Das ist die Reihenfolge, die wir für Mai bis September empfehlen. Nach der Felsenfestung Sigiriya führt die Straße ostwärts an den mittelalterlichen Ruinen von Polonnaruwa vorbei nach Pasikudah, dessen geschützte Bucht auch zögerlichen Schwimmern entgegenkommt, dann in den Surferort Arugam Bay. Von dort geht es landeinwärts und bergauf: zwei Nächte in Ella, die Teeplantagen um Nuwara Eliya und zum Abschluss ein Abend am Zahntempel in Kandy.

Am besten von Mai bis September, wenn Pasikudah und Arugam Bay ruhige See und guten Surf haben; damit ersetzt diese Fassung das Südküsten-Finale von November bis April aus unserer zehntägigen Tierwelt- und Südküstenrunde durch die Ostküstensaison, die es nur im Sommer gibt.

A 91m colonial viaduct built in 1921 with nine arches, best photographed when a train crosses — departures from Ella at approximately 9:10am and 3:15pm daily.
Rawana Ella Cave
A natural cave in the hillside near Ella said by local tradition to be where King Ravana hid Sita during the Ramayana epic, located close to Ravana Falls.
Ella Rock
A 1,041m summit above Ella town reached by a 3-hour round-trip hike through tea estates and jungle, with panoramic views across the Ella Gap valley.

Ella, in Ihrem Tempo
Wandertag rund um Ella: Der Little Adam's Peak ist ein leichter Rundweg von 1 bis 1,5 Stunden auf befestigtem Pfad; der Ella Rock ist die ernste Variante, 3 bis 4 Stunden hin und zurück auf unmarkiertem Weg, am besten früh gestartet; die Ravana-Fälle, ein Wasserfall an der Straße, benannt nach dem Dämonenkönig des Ramayana, passen auf die Weiterfahrt.
Nuwara Eliya
Nuwara Eliya, eine Bergstadt mit Cottages im Tudor-Stil, erbaut von britischen Teepflanzern, liegt etwa 2 Stunden entfernt. Eine noch produzierende Teefabrik und ein Spaziergang am Ufer des Gregory-Sees füllen den Tag.

Hanthana Mountain Range
A ridge of peaks reaching 1,467m immediately south-west of Kandy, offering half-day hiking trails through tea estates with views over the Kandy valley.
